The Advertising Club of Edmonton (ACE) hosted the 37th Annual ACE Awards on March 19, 2016. The awards honoured the best locally-produced advertising work, from brochure design to radio advertising, video production to best use of social media, and everything in between. McCallum Printing Group was chosen as the winner of the ACE award in the printing category for DDB Edmonton’s "ICE District Leasing Presentation Guide."

New Equipment – HP Latex 360 Plotter
Our newest plotter, the HP Latex 360 sports a 64 inch print width complete with an embedded photospectrometer. The 360 produces scratch-resistant prints which can be left unlaminated and used outdoors for up to 3 years. Latex inks deliver vibrant, saturated colours using lower cost medias with quick-drying odourless ink and more choice of compatible print media.

We decided to celebrate 10 years of excellence in the printing business with new branding!
A picture does not do justice to our new business cards… you’ll have to see them in person! Our Triplex business card is made up of 3 layers laminated together with push pull adhesive resulting in a striking pinstripe effect on the edge of the card. Neenah SO… SILK 92 lb. cover fair blue super smooth sandwiched between two layers of Topkote 130 lb. cover. Printed 2 spot colours + black over 2 spot colours on the back. Soft touch coating and a die cut on the front and satin coating on the back.

Equipment Expansion
We are committed to continuous investment in new technology to improve efficiency and value. We are
currently in the process of installing $1,500,000 worth of new equipment including:
Heidelberg SX 52 5 Colour with Coater
Installed in March 2013 this SX model will be one of the first to be installed Canada. This
press will provide our customers better pricing and higher quality on short run colour. We also will be able
to provide a greater range of stock thickness with the SX's ability to run up to 24 pt. board.

Crease Master and Cito System
Installed in November 2012 we have invested in two devices to improve the quality of our slitting and
creasing. We required this investment to provide faster turnaround with the highest quality possible to
address the many different substrates that we provide our customers. Both units have the ability to
provide letterpress quality scoring to prevent any cracking when folding.

Horizon 5500 Stitchliner
Installing in December 2012 the stitchliner will not only provide redundancy for our saddle stitched
production line, we will also be able to improve turnaround, improve binding of digital products and
automate all flat sheet collating, for plastic coil and wire–o products.

Polar 78
Installed in October of 2012 this unit adds to our fleet of cutters, with the Polar 78 focusing on our digital
workflow. It has all the automation of our larger cutters but has the ability to prepare products under 2
inches. The overall size allows us also to handle up to 23 x 35 inch sheets if in the event we have a cutter
dedicated to larger projects and we require the Polar 78 to switch to our large format production.

Horizon Folder
Installed in October 2012 this is a fully automated folder, giving us the ability to reduce make ready times
and increase throughput. No longer do we require manually setting rollers and plates, just pick the folding
scheme and go.

McCallum Printing Group to test the viability of its vegetable inks on agrifibre paper.
Alberta Innovates – Technology Futures (AITF) partnered with McCallum to test the viability of printing vegetable inks on their agrifibre paper. AITF made pulp for this paper from post harvest Flax and Wheat fibre. Cascades Inc. in St. Jerome, Quebec made the paper from the pulp AITF supplied combining it with recycled wood fibre pulp. The test was printed with solids and images in 4 color process with great results.

The Advertising Club of Edmonton (ACE) celebrated the 32nd Annual ACE Awards at the Citadel Theatre on April 30, 2011 awarding top agencies in Edmonton. Twenty-seven ACE's were awarded to the agencies recognizing their achievement. McCallum Printing has received this award in the Printing Category.

Bonar McCallum, who was previously McCallum’s Campus Manager at the University of Alberta is now Account Executive for Southern Alberta.

McCallum's e-team visited the Edmonton Waste Management Centre.
On May 3rd, members of McCallum's e-team visited the Edmonton Waste Management Centre. During the eye-opening visit, we were amazed to learn what really happens to our garbage and the extent that the facility goes to in order to recover and reuse as much material as possible.

Duplo 645 SCC installation
Augmenting our small format digital and offset workflow, the Duplo 645 Slitter Cutter Creaser eliminates the cracking issues inherent to digital printing and can provide up to 10 creases, 6 slits and 15 cuts on a single sheet in one pass. With a barcode reader, jobs are automatically set up and each sheet is monitored and adjusted for registration, if necessary, eliminating any drift that is inherent to digital print engines.\

With the first iGen4 in Western Canada, McCallum Printing is proud to be able to provide our customers with the industry's best digital image quality that rivals offset printing. It can handle a wide array of stocks from 16 to 300 lbs. with a maximum size of 14.33 inches by 20.5 inches. Variable information printing can be employed with this device to support high-value targetted marketing programs.

Stahl TH 82 Folder installation
The newest addition to our fleet of large format folders, the Stahl TH 82 gives us a total of 4 folders capable of handling a wide variety of folding requirements. Six plates in the first unit gives us the ability to do complicated brochure folding with fast setups. Folding and finishing now matches the speed and accuracy of our state-of-the-art pressroom.

Building Expansion
We added 5,000 square feet to our building to house our fulfillment and logistics departments. This has also allowed us to more effectively use our original space for press and bindery, resulting in an even more efficient workflow.
